How to Read These

What You're Actually
Looking At

Detailing photos are easy to fake. Shoot in flat overcast light, stand back far enough, and almost any freshly washed car looks corrected. So it's worth knowing what to look for — in our work and in anyone else's.

Look for reflections with defined edges. On corrected paint, the reflection of a straight line stays straight. If the reflection is soft, hazy, or has a halo around every light source, the paint still has swirls in it — a wash and a wax will hide that for about a week.

Look at the door jambs and the fuel door. Almost nobody photographs them, because that's where rushed work shows first. A finished vehicle is clean in the places you only see when something is open.

Look at the trim, not the paint. Faded plastic trim next to glossy paint is the tell that a vehicle was polished but not detailed. Restored trim takes an extra step that gets skipped under time pressure.

Look for water in the seams after an interior. Over-wet extraction leaves carpet damp for days, and damp carpet in a closed vehicle is where smell comes from. Proper extraction pulls the moisture back out.

Every vehicle in this gallery came through a single-vehicle booking day in our Kelowna bay. Nothing here was rushed between two other cars, which is the entire reason the finishes hold up.
